Baseball Philosophy
Our Philosophy
Wherever your athlete is in their baseball journey, we are here to help them improve their skills!
We believe in creating a strong foundation of fundamental skills in hitting, throwing, pitching, fielding, and catching. All of our instructors have played collegiate or professional baseball and are able to draw on years of competitive baseball experience as a player and as a coach.
DC Baseball Academy is committed to providing thoughtful, research-backed instruction so that players of all ages can realize their potential. Whether your son or daughter has never picked up a bat or they are working towards playing in college, our excellent instructors will create a plan to meet their needs. We pride ourselves on our knowledge of the game and our ability to make complex concepts easier to grasp by anyone that walks through our doors.
“Baseball is the only field of endeavor where a man can succeed three times out of ten and be considered a good performer.” – Ted Williams
Hitting can be one of the most discouraging aspects of the game of baseball, but through positive reinforcement, excellent instruction, and the right attitude, it can also be one of the most rewarding.
Below are the basic principles of our hitting instruction
- Having an athletic, aggressive approach to offense
- Keep the head still and maintain a consistent eye level
- Create proper rotation from the ground up
- Improve hand and bat path to create a short and fast swing
- Have the ability to drive the ball to all fields and protect the strike zone when needed
- Be able to contribute to the team’s offense in any potential game situation
“Hitting is timing. Pitching is upsetting timing.” – Warren Spahn
Like hitting, pitching can be intimidating to say the least. Our instructors use cutting edge drills and video analysis to ensure that while we help athletes become better, more explosive pitchers, we are also creating healthy arms with the potential for long careers.
Below are the basic principles of our pitching instruction
- Being an athlete on the mound
- Generate speed and power to the plate
- Plantar flexion to “drive”, not push
- Embracing natural arm angles for healthy shoulders and elbows
- How to throw off-speed to compliment fastballs
- Pick-off moves
- Learning the mental side of the game
